Peer Review

About the Peer Review Process

Peer review is crucial to maintaining the quality and integrity of published research. When you submit an article to the FCE, it will be evaluated by at

least two independent reviewers. Their feedback plays a significant role in the editor’s decision on whether to accept or reject your article for publication.

What is Peer Review and Why is it Important?

Peer review involves the critical evaluation of manuscripts submitted to journals by external experts who are not part of the editorial staff. An overwhelming majority of authors

—about 90 percent—believe that peer review significantly enhances the quality of their articles. The primary aim of peer review is to ensure the integrity of scientific research by

filtering out studies that are invalid or of low quality.

How Does It Work?

At FCE, every submitted article is reviewed by at least two qualified experts in the relevant subject area. The process works as follows:

1. Reviewer Selection: The journal editor invites experts with significant experience in the subject matter of the article to evaluate it and provide feedback.

2. Reviewer Feedback: Reviewers assess various aspects of the manuscript, such as the study's design, the robustness of the results, and the clarity of the conclusions. They may

also suggest improvements, identify errors, and offer new insights.

3. Editorial Decision: The feedback provided by the reviewers informs the editor’s decision on whether to accept, revise, or reject the manuscript. The most common types of

peer review are single-anonymous and double-anonymous review:

• Single-Anonymous Review: The identities of the reviewers are not disclosed to the author, but the reviewers know the author's identity.

• Double-Anonymous Review: Neither the author nor the reviewers know each other’s identities.

At FCE, we use the single-anonymous review format, which helps ensure that the reviewers can provide honest and impartial evaluations.

What Do Editors and Reviewers Look For?

During the peer review process, editors and reviewers at FCE assess the following attributes:

• Scope: Is the content appropriate for the journal's audience?

• Novelty: Does the article present new findings or insights not previously published?

• Validity: Is the study well-designed and executed with rigor?

• Data Presentation: Are the data presented clearly and accurately, with appropriate analysis?

• Clarity: Are the concepts conveyed clearly, concisely, and coherently?

• Ethical Compliance: Does the article meet all ethical standards and journal requirements?
